The
building is located in a part of the city where the constructions already
existed in XIV century. Of this era are left few vestiges: The fountain,
located in the conservatory and the walls of the cellar. At the beginning
of XIX Century the building was the property of Ignacio Asols family and
counted the ground floor and three superior floors.
It
was in 1868 when its proprietor decided to divide it in two separate houses.
This project was ordered by the architect Pere Pascual i Baguer. Taking
advantage of the works, the original street was laid further back and
so as to make it straight the same as the other side of the street the
town hall asked and gave permission to the house owners to build as it
were an extra annex. The new proprietors of this house were Francesc Daltabuit
and Joseph Roura. |
The same Joseph Vilaret we have to thank for all the beautiful decorated, painted ceilings and mosaic floors which he had done by the gifted craftsmen of the time. They incorporated new chimneys in the first and second floor. The third floor of the house was used as servants quarters. Conservatory and the leaded crystal door of colours are dated in the same age. In one of their halls the modernistic decorations are remarkable.
| Since the purchase, this house was known popularly as "Can Vilaret". This house is now a protected listed building by the city Council. In January of the 2000 the building was acquired by its present proprietor, Tomàs Pla, the inspiration behind the "Museu d'Història de la Joguina". The necessary works were made to adapt the museum to his vision, following this a careful restoration of all their architectural and decorative elements were carried out. |
